Holiday Tool Sale Today

Good afternoon!

I put a batch of 140 new old tools on my Tools For Sale Page today at noon EDT. Have a look- there’s lots of good stuff including some superb molders, nice chisels, plenty of Stanley planes, and lots of other fun stuff. The past month was an especially productive one for tool hunting. My “warehouse” is full to bursting with some of the best tools I’ve had in a while. Just last weekend I ran into a load of exceptional British molding planes- you’ll see some of them on this list and more to come in the weeks that follow.

Sorry this is a few minutes late.. It’s a school holiday and I was busy making grilled cheese sandwiches for the kids’ lunch. I’m pretty sure I make the best grilled cheese in the world… at least my kids think so, which is really all that matters. Fall is here, which means apple picking, and pumpkins, and hay rides. It’s been lots of fun with all three of them now that everyone is old enough to walk and run. I’m going to try a batch of hard cider a try this year- I’ve wanted to do it for a while. It should be interesting.

Finally, I’ve had several complaints the past few weeks that the tools I post to my website just sell too fast. I send this email to everyone at the same time and nobody gets an early look at the tools.. I understand your frustration- I do the best I can to put as many tools up at a time as possible. I try to price my tools to sell, and apparently this works because they do sell fast. The past couple of sales some 80% of the tools were sold within the first couple of hours. If you missed out on something I’m sorry. I would remind everyone that I’m always happy to received requests for specific tools. I have a large inventory of tools that are not listed on my site. In fact, a majority of my sales are not from my Tools For Sale list but from personal requests. I much prefer to work this way since it’s much less hectic. Anyhow, I understand your frustration and I’m open to comments or suggestions on how I can improve my process.

Lunchtime Tool Sale Today

Hello Everyone,

Here’s a new list of tools for you to look over while you enjoy your lunch (or breakfast on the west coast.. or dinner in Europe) The new list is here: http://hyperkitten.com/tools/ForSale/Tools_FS.php It contains about 130 fresh tools of all sorts- lots of new Ashley Iles carving tools, some good Stanley planes, a couple of interesting Spofford braces, molding planes, etc. I hope you find something you like.

This list contains four mitre boxes. If you have been following the mitre box market, you will have been sure to note that the “craze” has peaked and prices have returned to normal which is great news for anyone looking for a good usable mitre box. I have four Millers Falls Langdons on this list in various sizes and configurations. I just got my shipment of custom triple wall boxes to facilitate shipping these beasts. They will be shipped in two boxes- one containing the box, the other the saw. There is just no good way to protect a fragile saw from that mass of cast iron if packed in the same box. They aren’t cheap, but they are guaranteed to arrive safe, work well, and be satisfactory in every way. If you are interested in one please drop me an email with any questions.

Summer is almost over and the kids go back to school next week. It doesn’t feel like fall yet- today will reach 90 degrees and we’re just starting to get the first tomatoes from the garden. It’s been a rather disappointing year for vegetables- the beans were attached by bean beatles, the pumpkins by squash borers, so neither did very well. The cucumbers went crazy though, and the tomatoes look good so far. By mid-September we’ll be making sauce I hope.

For the past four years, with a few exceptions, I’ve been posting new tools on the first and third Mondays of every month. That schedule will change slightly. My day job just changed our furlough schedule, granting us an extra half day per week. Still not full time, but I’ll take it! This means I will need to move my scheduled tool sales to the second and fourth Mondays of the month starting in September.

As I mentioned last time, I added a Parts and Projects section to my For Sale web page. I’ve been adding all sorts of blades, kits, and misc. pieces from time to time and the stuff seems to be selling pretty steadily. I will continue posting new parts and projects as time allows so keep an eye out.

That’s it for now. Thanks for reading!

Mid-Summer Tool Sale Today

Hello everyone,

It’s a beautifuld ay here in CT. Although it’s early August it feels like early October. This morning it was cold enough to send the kids off to camp in sweatshirts. What a difference from a few weeks ago! The past few weeks have been busy ones, including a 4 day trip to the massive tool show and auction MJD held out in central NY. I’m happy to report that I came home with a truck full of good, usable tools. This new list contains about 130 new items, and a few left-overs from last month that have been marked down in price. Please have a look here and let me know if you find something you like.

I added a section to my Tools For Sale webpage called “Parts and Projects”. In this section I will continuously add items to this section when I have a chance. It will random tool parts that someone might want as well as “project” pieces that need a bit of time and labor to make them work.

Finally, the next list should be out on Wed., August 21, a departure from my normal first and third Mondays of each month.

That’s all for now. Thanks for reading!

Mid-Summer Tool Sale Today

Hi Everyone,

I’m back from vacation with a batch of new tools for sale. The new list is here: http://hyperkitten.com/tools/ForSale/Tools_FS.php You should find about 120 new items and the couple left over from last time marked down to reduced prices. Have a look and please contact me if you find anything you like.

You might notice that I changed my site design a little bit. I’ve rolled out the new Hyperkitten Tool Co. logo I hope you like it as much as I do. I’m still working on a few layout glitches but overall I’m happy with it. If you discover and problems please let me know.

We had a really nice week and a half off. We didn’t do anything crazy, or go very far but we had a lot of fun. Our time off included a parade, 4th of July picnic, several trips to the beach, a trip to the aquarium, water park, Kent Falls (great state park with 250 ft three-tier waterfall), a minor league baseball game with my oldest, and other fun stuff. It was nice to get away for a bit and slow down. Now it’s back to work! I’m working on my emial backlog still so if I have been slow or unresponsive lately I apologize.

New Tools for Sale Today!

Good Afternoon!

It’s a perfect day here in Connecticut- sunny and warm without any humidity or chance of storms like the past couple of days. It’s a perfect day to sell a few tools. Today’s list contains a number of good molding planes, some fine saws and braces, a bunch of metallic and wooden bench planes, and other fun and useful stuff. Have a look and let me know if you find something you like. The new list is here: http://hyperkitten.com/tools/ForSale/Tools_FS.php

A few notes- I’m planning to take some time off from work to spend with my kids between the end of the school year and the start of camp.We have a few fun day trips planned- nothing extravagant as it’s stil hard to travel far with the little ones. As such, I’m going to skip the tool sale I would have had on the first Monday of July. I will have a larger sale in the middle of July (likely the 15th) and the next on the first Monday of August which will be 8/5. I hope everyone enjoys their 4th of July celebrations.

That’s all for now.. Sorry this is later than usual, but I got wrapped up in Game of Thrones today.. I’ve been engrossed in the audio books (I’m a huge audio book fan and listen to them constantly as I pack and clean tools) trying to catch up to the TV series. I was listening to ASOS this morning as I was putting the finishing touches on this list when I got the the wedding. Needless to say I had to listen a little longer, and needless to say that if you haven’t seen or read GoT this is completely uninteresting.

All for now, thanks for reading!

Tool Sale Today

Hi Folks,

June is here and so is the summer weather. We just got through our first heat wave of the year already. The garden is growing well, though I lost almost my entire batch of tomato seedlings which is disappointing. We had a great Memorial Day weekend with a parade, the town road race, a successufl fishing trip, and a rainy, cold, but fun picnic. I hope everyone who went to Handworks last week had a great time. All of the reports I heard were extremely positive and the pictures were further evidence. I hope to make it out there if the event is held again.

I posted a list of new old tools for sale today- lots of good stuff including a good assortment of edge tools, some nice braces, saws, molding planes, a lot of near new Veritas tools, and other fun stuff. Look for my next list on Wed., June 19 if all goes as planned. The new list is here: http://hyperkitten.com/tools/ForSale/Tools_FS.php Please contact me if you find somethign you like.

A Couple of Updates

Hi Folks,

Just a couple of quick updates. First- all of the tools that were sold on Monday are either already en route to their new owners or waiting to be brought to the post office tomorrow- lots of boxes of tools headed all over the world. I’m doing my best to single-handedly keep the USPS in business!

A number of you asked if I was headed to HandWorks this coming weekend. Unfortunately I won’t be there. I’d love to go but, as I mentioned in my last update, I have an anniversary and my son’s birthday this weekend. I love tools and woodworking, but I’m not going to miss those for the world.

For anyone planning to go to HandWorks: if you are in the market for a complete, ready-to-use spring pole lathe, let me know. A customer in Cedar Rapids, just about 20 miles from Amana, is selling one he made. If you might be interested drop me a line and I’ll put you in touch with him.

I often wonder if anyone reads the bits of my personal life I put in the blog updates. I include that stuff to make sure you know I get out of the tool warehouse (aka my basement) once in a while and breathe some fresh air. Last time I mentioned a fishing trip which elicited quite a few responses from readers. Until a few weeks ago I hadn’t fished in probably close to 20 years. Then the other day all of the sudden, out of the blue,my daugher asked me to take her fishing. What dad could pass up that invitation? I bought her a pole, taught her to cast, and sure enough she caught a really decent fat sunny her first time out, all by herself. I’m just slightly proud 🙂

Thanks for reading. More tools coming on the first Monday in June.
