A New Look for Hyperkitten.com

Hi Folks- thanks for stopping by and reading this. Tonight I took the plunge, hit the button, and made the new website design active. This update is long overdue and many months in the making. I hope you like it. If not, there’s a link to the old site on the main web page. I’ll keep the old site active for a while while I review feedback and look at usage numbers. Please feel free to contact me if you have any comments, suggestions, or criticisms.

What did I change and why did I change it? I completely redesigned the site from scratch. The old website was built on a foundation of code that was approaching 15 years old. Viewing it on a mobile device or tablet was a challenging. I myself dreaded using my website from my phone. The new site is based on a flexible design that should work well on both mobile devices/tablets and desktop browsers. I also moved most of my tool research and other articles over to a Wiki format which most people are familiar with. This will make it much easier for people to access and for me to update.

What’s coming up in the future? I plan to add a lot to the tool Wiki. I have hundreds of period publications and advertisements to add to it. For example, I recently added this Buck Brothers catalog from 1890. We can learn a lot from period publications like this. I enjoy sharing what I find. I still have a lot of work to do with the Stanley Bench Plane Dating pages which didn’t translate too well to the Wiki format. Same with some of the older pages like the Router Plane Type Study which was published to the web way back in 1996. It’s an antique in and of itself! I also hope to keep the blog updated more often than I have in the past, though seeing as the last update was five years ago I wouldn’t count on that.

As always, I’m adding new tools to my Tools For Sale list as often as I can. This year has been a real challenge to keep the tool business going along with my day job as well as having the kids home with me constantly. I appreciate your patience as I continue to juggle responsibilities.

Thanks reading! I await your comments.
