The No. 45 Back Saw

Features: Spring Steel, Warranted, Blued Steel Back, Apple Handle, Polished Edges, Improved Screws
Probably the most common Peace backsaw, it was offered in a variety of lengths from 6 inches to 24 inches.

Pictured below is a very interesting of a 20 inch Peace backsaw made for a Langdon Mitre Box. The etch gives the location of Langdon in "Northhampton, Mass.". These mitre boxes were produced by the Northampton Pegging Machine Co. in Northampton until 1876 when production was moved to Millers Falls, Mass. This saw is curiously double-etched with both the Peace logo and the Langdon logo. All of the Langdon Mitre Box advertisments I've found to date state that their mitre boxes are shipped with Disston back saws, which makes this example an anomality.

Pictured below is a 24 inch Peace number 45 backsaw. This saw was either used quite a bit, and sharpened down to nothing, or produced for a special purpose. It measures only 2 inches under the spine the entire length of the blade.
