This is a beautiful, top-quality brace made by Marples in Sheffield. The head is solid ebony with a brass quill. It even has an ivory ring, which is completely intact. The head is similar to those used on Ultimatums. I've never seen one on a plated brace. It's in excellent condition with barely any wear. The brass is uncleaned and has a great patina. The chuck spring is perfect. It's the best non-ultimatum brace I've seen. $125

This is a medium duty drill that can hold bits up to 3/8in. It can be used like a normal drill or a breast drill thanks to the design of the handle. It's in very good condition with some light wear and finish loss. . The chuck and jaws have only minor wear. It still works well. A solid worker. $35

This example was made by North Brothers in Philadelphia around 1946. It has the "Division of Stanley" mark. It's missing some nickel, but it works perfectly. The ratchet is nice and smooth in both directions. The jaws have minimal wear. a solid working example. $45

This is a top-quality drill made by Millers Falls for Craftsman. It's a No. 5 size, ideal for small work. It's in excellent condition and works flawlessly. $35

This is a high-quality drill made by North Brothers in Philadelphia. It's a small, single-speed drill ideal for light or delicate work. This example is in very good condition with some light wear. It works flawlessly, however. The chuck and jaws are excellent. The main gear still has some of the original decals. A solid little worker. $35

This is an especially clean example, barely used, with all original nickel. It has a full set of bits in the magazine handle. It's marked "Stanley Yankee Tools," which I haven't seen before. It's a quick, accurate tool to drill tiny holes. $25

this is an early example dating to prior to 1894. It has an absolutely gorgeous lignum head. It has some missing nickel, but still works perfectly. an ideal general-purpose bit brace $28

This is a high-quality brace made by PS&W in Southington, CT and sold under the Worth brand name. It has the really nice bluing on the bare metal they used on Worth tools. It's blue/brown and iridescent in the light. The brace is in excellent working condition. An excellent general-purpose worker. $24

This is an excellent example in perfect working condition. It's a great general-purpose bit brace, capable of all but the heaviest work. $28

This is a heavy-duty brace in perfectly usable condition. It's an early example with cocobolo handles. There isn't a lot of nickel left, so it isn't the prettiest, but it works very well. a good general-purpose brace. $20

This is a really well-done auger bit handle with what looks like a hand-forged bit retention system. It has no maker's mark I can see, which is unusual. It doesn't match any of the patented designs I'm aware of. I've never seen anything like it. $40

This is a good, usable example with minimal wear. It has a nice, smooth gear action, and the chuck works perfectly. All of the jaw springs are in place and work well. It has a magazine handle for holding bits. It's a small drill, capable of holding bits 1/16in to 11/64. A nice working example $35

This is a good, usable example dating to prior to 1935. It works perfectly. It's missing finish and paint, but has no damage. It's a solid worker, not a collector's item $30

This brace was made by Jennings in New York. It has the distinct octagonal chuck shell and gorgeous cocobolo handles. It's in excellent working order with minimal wear. It's marked on the chuck shell with the patent date Dec 27.1892 . This is Goodel''s patent which covers a number of improvements. This brace has the adjustable handle bearings described in the patent. It's a great general-purpose bit brace. The lack of a ratchet gives you a great feel in use. $40

This brace was made in Shelburne Falls, MA by the H.S. Shepardson Co.. The design was patented by Shepardson on March 1, 1870. It has an interesting curved, sliding jaw design. The chuck still works smoothly. The handle is in great shape. The pad may be a replacement based on the pin locations. If it is, it's very well-done and works perfectly. It's a good example of a scarce patented bit brace $35

This brace is marked with the patent date March 31, 1857 on the frame. The "March 31" is definite. The 1857 is less clear, but I'm 90% sure on it. There are a couple of brace patents on March 31, 1857, but neither matches this brace. Furthermore, there are no other March 31 brace patents shown in Pearson that are anywhere near this year. The chuck is somewhat unique. The rest of the brace is pretty normal for this age- nothing special stands out to me. It's in excellent condition, unrestored and with a beautiful, natural patina. $35

This example has a dark, even patina on the frame. I can't see a maker's mark, but I haven't cleaned it. The chuck spring is still strong and the lever is intact. It's usable, and would be fun to use with center bits or similar. $25
