In short, no new tools today. Hopefully tomorrow. Today was the season's first practice for my son's mountain bike team. I got roped into being a coach again this year. That means two hours on a bike trying to keep up with teenagers in the hills. I guarantee we didn't leave anyone behind. Nobody was slower than me. I'm cooked.
I have fun stuff planned. Be the first to find out by subscribing to my email list.
Scarce Mathieson Double-Iron Quirk-Ogee-Bevel Molding Plane
$65
New Item This Week
This plane cuts a 1in wide by 5/8in deep quirk ogee and bevel, a useful, general-purpose profile. This plane, made by Mathieson in Glasgow, is different in that it uses two blades to cut the profile- one to cut the bevel, the other the ogee. Why two blades? It makes the plane much easier to maintain. When the plane is used, the bevel blade does most of the work since it's removing the most stock. The entire profile must be ground with a single-blade plane when the bevel portion wears down. Two blades require much less grinding and honing to keep the blades projecting evenly across the mouth of the plane. This example has light to moderate wear and is still completely usable. Both blades are clean and have plenty of life left. $65
