Beautiful, Early Small Ovolo Molding Plane
$40
New Item This Week
This plane was made by Stewart, the Edinburgh family of planemakers working from 1774 well into the mid-19th century. This plane has the flat chamfers and profile of a late 18th or very early 19th century plane. It cuts a rather unique 1/4in wide by 3/8in deep ovolo. It's unusual in that it's deeper than it is wide. It has light wear from use and a very nice patina. The blade is long and clean. It's a great profile, definitely usable with nothing more than the usual tuning. $40
Excellent Routledge 3/8in Dado Molding Plane

Usable 3/8in Dado Plane
$20
New Item This Week
This plane was made by Doscher in Saugatuck, CT. It cuts a 3/8in dado. It has a functional depth stop, straight body, and long clean blades. It's perfectly usable. The flaw is a screw repair to the thin area in the sidewall of the mortise. It doesn't affect use, and makes it a bargain worker $20

Scarce 5/16in Dado Plane
$40
New Item This Week
This is a very hard to find 5/16in dado in good, working order. It was made by Auburn. The body is straight. The blades are long and clean. The depth stop is functional. The nicker has a slightly chipped cutter on one side but plenty of life left in it. It's a good worker in a highly unusual size $40
H. Chapin 2in no. 203 Skew Boxed Rabbet w/ Nicker
$45
New Item This Week
This is a hard-to-find and always desirable configuration. It has a fully boxed working corner and a nicker blade for working cross-grain. It's a high-quality plane made by Chapin at the Union Factory outside of Hartford, CT. It's been used and has some light wear in the boxing. The blade still has plenty of life left and zero pitting. The nickel blade fits in the dovetailed slot tightly. A solid working example of this highly desirable plane. $45
Exceptional Matched Pair of 1in Tongue and Groove Planes

Three Excellent Pairs of Varvill Hollows and Rounds
$150
New Item This Week
These planes were all made by Varvill in York, England. They are absolutely top-quality planes. These planes have 55-degree blades that are slightly skewed at around 5 degrees. These were made for working with difficult hardwoods. The planes have always been together with matching marks and patina. The planes have minimal wear and extra-tight mouths. A few of the blades have some light pitting, thus the lower-than-normal price. It won't take too much work to get them into working condition. Sizes are: 7/8in (no. 12), 1in (no. 14), and 1 1/4in (no. 16). $150
Beautiful 1/2in Square Ogee Molding Plane
$45
New Item This Week
This plane has no maker's mark but is almost certainly British and likely late 18th or very early 19th century based on the design. It has flat chamfers along the hand hold, a deep cove at the step with sharp gouge marks at the corners. The wedge finial is rounded. It's a beautifully made plane in excellent working condition. The mouth is very tight and the blade remains in excellent condition, still decently sharp. It definitely needs to be honed but it works surprisingly well as-found. It cuts a very desirable 1/2in tall by 1/2in deep ogee- a lovely little profile. Overall it's a fantastic example to put to work. $45
Excellent 1/2in Dado Molding Plane

This is a high quality molding plane made by T. Turner in Sheffield. It's in excellent working order. The plane is dead straight. The blades are especially clean. The depth stop works perfectly. It's everything you want in a dado plane to use, as well as being an especially desirable size. $40

Near-Mint 1/2in Side Bead Molding PLane

Scarce Mathieson Double-Iron Quirk-Ogee-Bevel Molding Plane
$45
This plane cuts a 1in wide by 5/8in deep quirk ogee and bevel, a useful, general-purpose profile. This plane, made by Mathieson in Glasgow, is different in that it uses two blades to cut the profile- one to cut the bevel, the other the ogee. Why two blades? It makes the plane much easier to maintain. When the plane is used, the bevel blade does most of the work since it's removing the most stock. The entire profile must be ground with a single-blade plane when the bevel portion wears down. Two blades require much less grinding and honing to keep the blades projecting evenly across the mouth of the plane. This example has light to moderate wear and is still completely usable. Both blades are clean and have plenty of life left. $45
Auburn 7/8ish Dado Plane
$28
No, that's not a typo. It's marked 7/8in, but the distance between the nickers (which is what defines the size of the dado it cuts) is exactly 13/16. The plane has minimal wear, and long, clean blades. It's still straight. The depth stop works, but it's a little loose. Once it's set it pushes up a bit but it doesn't slip. It's a common problem. Just take the slip into account when you set the depth. It's a good, usable plane $28
Mathieson 1/2in Dado Plane
$40
Mathieson 7/8in Dado Plane
$28
Excellent Quirk Ogee Molding Plane
$45
This plane cuts a curvy 1 1/8in wide by 3/4in deep quirk ogee. It's a high-quality plane made by J&L Denison. The plane has light wear from use but no damage. The blade is perfect. The boxing is flawless. An excellent worker with a highly desirable profile which will require minimal effort to get it into working condition. $45
Excellent Medium Size Quirk Ogee and Bevel Molding Plane
$35
This plane was made by the prolific Philadelphia planemaker John Bell. It cuts a 1in wide by 1/2in deep quirk ogee, a nice medium size version of this extremely versatile profile. The plane has light wear from use but no damage. The blade is long and clean. An excellent plane to put to use. $35
Small Quirk Ogee and Bevel Molding Plane
$28
This plane cuts a 1in wide by 5/8in deep profile. It's a classic quirk ogee and bevel profile, a versatile shape that's among the most common profiles to find. It has moderate wear from use, including a small amount of damage to the sole and boxing right at the toe of the plane. It won't affect use, but it affects the value. The blade is long and clean. The plane is still usable and requires only the normal amount of tuning. It was made by the partnership of Benton and Evans in Rochester, NY in the 1830s. $28
Large Quirk Ogee and Astragal Molding Plane
$40
This plane was made by Mockridge & Son in Newark, NJ. It cuts a 1 3/4in wide by 1 1/2 deep quirk ogee and astragal, a lovely profile with a lot of curves. The plane looks unused, or at least has no visible wear. The blade also looks unused. There's one flaw- a long, slim chip missing from the short grain along the side of the plane. It's no surprise, given the design, but it's unfortunate nonetheless. Still a usable plane with a lovely profile. $40
Early, Interesting Molding Plane
$20
This plane has 19th century characteristics but no definite maker's mark. It has a bold "D.L" incuse mark on the toe I can't find in AWP-IV. It's an unusual profile that looks like a miniature coping plane in profile, but that's unlikely the case. It could be a sill drip edge plane. I'm stumped on this one. It's in excellent condition. $20
Early and Unusual English Sash Fillister
$50
This plane was made by Heilds in Nottingham. It's a typical English style fillister with a high level of fit and finish. It's quite unusual though. There is a brass piece screwed to the right side of the depth stop that I'm at a loss to explain. The more unusual feature is the nicker- There's a mortise and boxwood wedge to hold the nicker blade, which is normal. What's weird is that the mortise doesn't extend down into the sole so it's useless. It's not repaired or modified. I'm at a loss. It's still quite pretty, and useful as a rabbet plane. $50
Big Ogee Molding Plane
$20
This plane cuts a 1 3/4in wide by 1in deep ogee. It was made by H.L. Naramore in Cummingotn, MA between 1865-1872. It's a good-looking plane with a decent blade but the mouth is opened up, presumably intentionally. It's not ideal, for sure, but it could still be usable, and it's a nicer larger profile. $20
Greenslade Flat Ovolo Molding Plane
$24
This is a high quality plane made by Greenslade. It cuts a 1/2in wide by 1/4in deep flat ovolo. The plane has light wear. the blade is decent- the back is clean but it needs the usual tuning to get it into working condition. It's a decent, usable plane that cuts a very useful profile $24
Thos. Appleton 1/4in Side Bead Molding Plane
$30
This plane was made in the mid-late 19th century by Thomas Appleton, who worked in and around Boston. It's clean and sound with no damage and minimal wear. The blade is long and clean. The boxing is excellent- it has little wear and is still dead straight. It's a fine worker in a very desirable small size $30
J. Denison 1/4in Side Bead Molding Plane
$28
This is a good, usable plane. It was made by Denison in Saybrook, CT. It has light wear to the boxing at the front from use. Otherwise, it's clean and perfectly usable. The blade is long and clean, free of pitting. It needs the usual tuning to get it sharp, but nothing unexpected. A good solid worker in a very desirable size. $28
Matched Pair of 1in Taber Hollow and Round Molding Planes
$40
Excellent J. Denison Quirk-Ogee-Bevel Molding Plane
$45
This plane cuts a 1in wide by 1/2in deep quirk ogee and bevel profile. It was made by Denison in Saybrook, CT. It's a top-qualtiy American plane. It's seen little use, if any. The plane is crisp, clean and free of wear. The blade is original length and clean where it matters. It'll make a great worker with a minimal amount of effort required to make it usable. It's a lovely, general purpose profile in a desirable small/medium size $45
Unusual P.A. Gladwin 3/4in Square Reverse Ogee Molding Plane
$35
Gladwin is a well-documented planemaker and inventor working in both CT and the Boston area throughout the 19th century. This is a well-made plane with an odd profile. It cuts a 3/4in tall by 3/4in wide reverse ogee. It has no fence, which is both a plus and minus. A fence could easily be attached to allow it to run along the edge of a board. It has one small check at the heel right at the step. Otherwise, it's in excellent condition. The blade is original length and clean. The mouth is perfectly tight. A solid working example in an unusual configuration $35
Exceptional Steep Quirk Ovolo Molding Plane
$45
This plane was made between 1829-1849 in Sheffield by Charles Heathcott. It's a top-quality plane in amazing condition. The plane is clean and crisp with no damage and minimal wear. The only flaw is a scuff mark on the bottom of the fence- it's minor but otherwise the plane is perfect. It cuts a quirk ovolo 1in wide by 3/4in deep. It's beautifully made, and about as nice as they come. It's absolutely usable and quite an interesting profile $45
Sargent 5/8in Fluting Plane
$24
Chapin 7/8in Dado Plane
$35
This is a high quality molding plane made by H. Chapin at the Union Factory outside of Hartford, CT. It's in excellent working condition. The body is straight. The blades are long and clean. The depth stop works perfectly. It's a good user for making dados for larger case and cabinet work. $35
Thos. Appleton 1 1/4in Double-Iron Nosing Plane
$26
Excellent 3/4in Side Bead Molding Plane
$25
1in American Side Bead Molding Plane
$22
Chapin Stephens no. 133 1 1/4in Double-Iron Nosing Plane
$24
Well-Used Small Flat Ovolo Molding Plane
$25
This is a high quality plane made by Hields in Nottingham, working dates 1830-1881. This plane is in excellent condiiton, but very well-used based on the length of the blade. There's still a decent amount of life left. It cuts a nice little 9/16in wide by 1/4in deep flat ovolo, a useful and desirable profile. $25
Excellent 1in Flat Quirk Ogee Molding Plane
$35
This plane was made by Ohio for the Detroit, MI hardware retailer BB&WR Noyes. the plane cuts a 1in wide by 1/2in deep quirk flat ogee. It's in very good condition with minimal wear. The boxing is straight and the mouth is super tight. It has a long, clean blade. It's a good quality plane that is completely usable. $35
